family consultation
Understanding challenges. Finding solutions. Strengthening connections.
When children struggle with behavior, parents can find themselves caught in cycles of frustration, conflict, and strategies that don’t seem to work. Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) offers a different approach—one that looks beyond the behavior to understand the skills a child may be struggling to use and the problems that need to be solved. Through individualized consultation, we work with parents and children to identify challenges, understand different perspectives, and develop realistic solutions that address everyone’s concerns.
Services may include:
● Parent coaching and guidance in using the CPS approach
● Identifying and prioritizing recurring unsolved problems
● Individual conversations with children to better understand their skills and perspectives
● Modeling and facilitating collaborative problem-solving conversations
● Developing practical strategies for navigating difficult situations
● Follow-up support to strengthen skills and troubleshoot challenges
Consultation is flexible and tailored to each families circumstances, goals, and needs. Sessions may involve parents, children, or the family together.
Family Problem Solving Intensive
A focused starting point for families ready for a different approach. For families seeking a more structured experience, the Family Problem Solving Intensive offers a short-term consultation package designed to help identify priorities and begin putting Collaborative Problem Solving into practice.
The process includes gathering information about family concerns, identifying and prioritizing unsolved problems, facilitating a collaborative conversation, and developing next steps families can continue using at home.
The goal is not simply to address a particular behavior, but to help families develop a more effective way to understand and solve problems together.
